SURVEY: How Many Times Have You Taken PPD?

SURVEY: How Many Times Have You Taken PPD?

Postby stubscook » Sat Sep 21, 2019 10:02 pm

We see the 46% "pass rate" but I am not able to find any information on how NCARB comes up with that statistic or the average amount of times a person takes the exam before they pass.

So I am doing a little survey:
Below please type the number of times you have taken the exam and whether or not you have passed.
If you know of other people's attempt rates please feel free to add those as well.

Thanks!

Pass rate = #Passing/All attempts. They're not too keen on disclosing average number of attempts for those who pass.

I failed 3 times. Planning a retake in the next month or so. 2 of my friends are on their 5th attempt. Another friend passed on his third attempt. A coworker I know passed on his third attempt. I don't know anyone personally who has passed on the first try. It's so frustrating.

IT'S A CHRISTMAS MIRACLE!!!
I passed on the 3rd try!

For me the biggest difference was getting the Heating, Cooling, Lighting: Sustainable Methods for Architects by Norbert Lechner. I spend a couple days reading and reviewing the book and it was well worth it because I found that lot of information and a lot of the diagrams from the exams come directly from that book!

Just got my 5th failure. I thought I did well enough to pass this time.

Passed on the 4th try. It's a difficult exam, and I felt like I had wrapped my head around every possible study material I could, but perhaps gaining more in person experience at work and reading yet another book on mechanical systems helped.

PPD- 5th fail.
Survey came out from NCARB not looking good for retakers, and older candidates.
It all seems unfair.
