Building Code Illustrated WHAT VERSION?

Building Code Illustrated WHAT VERSION?

Postby architectco » Sun May 27, 2018 8:55 am

I want to purchase "Building Code Illustrated" but there are several editions with big price gaps, I dont mind spending money but I do mind wasting money. Should I get the latest edition or all editions the same ?

Thank you,

Older editions are probably fine.

I am trying to follow a post that suggested to use the books below and the books suggested by NCARB, what books do we need the latest versions and what books are
earlier editions ok

Building Code Illustrated
Architect's Studio Companion
Building Construction Illustrated:
FEMA primer. Chapters 4, 6 & 7. Really quickly went through it.

With Building Code Illustrated, use the 2015version or cross reference whatever version you use against the 2015code. The others are more flexible.

Edited with updated information as noted by Raja, below. Thanks Raja!

2012 is no longer in effect for the ARE. As of December 2018 NCARB switched to IBC 2015. I don't think it matters that much in terms of content, but some of the tables and so forth are set up differently.
