3.1 Stair First Try!

Postby samialj » Sat Aug 12, 2017 3:03 pm

This took me 50 minutes to finish.

Stair widths are 4'8" to accommodate the 48" clear requirement. All comments appreciated!

For the 1'-0" rail extensions for the stair and ramp, what is the proper way to model them? Should I be drawing one continuous rail with the 1-0" extension? Or should I break the rail at the bottom and top of the landing and then draw a 1-0" extension? Does it even matter? Thanks

I don't think you can have area of refuge in the passageway. You seem to be showing your second area of refuge in the passageway

Yes, you are correct. You can't have an AOR in the passageway. But I am only showing one AOR. Don't pay attention to the sketch rectangles.

No I believe you just need one.

The program states: The area of refuge shall be sized to accommodate one wheelchair space for each 200 occupants...based on the stairway occupant load. The occupant load of the second floor is 220. Therefore, I believe you just need one.

220/2=110<200=1 AOR.

If the code says there needs to be 1 AOR per 200 calculated occupants and the total occupants for a floor is 220, wouldn't you need to design for an additional AOR for those extra 20 occupants? We are exceeding 200 occupants per 1 AOR.

Looks like coach divided the 220 per floor, is that how it is done?

Not per floor, per exit. The stair load is 1/2 of the 2nd floor load.
