Architectural Graphic Standards

Postby kateao25 » Fri Jul 07, 2017 6:59 am

I had a beautiful, new copy of the AGS given to me a few years ago and I now cannot for the life of me find it anywhere. I'm going to have to replace it but, due to financial constraints, I was considering purchasing either the student version or an much older version (I had the 11th ed). Can anyone tell me whether it matters? Is it very important to get the most recent edition? I'm going to be studying for PPD/PDD and I want to make sure I'm up-to-date; I'll also obviously want to keep it as reference. Thanks!

Depends on your budget. AGS is always a great book to have for your future practice. I do not think you need the last version for your tests, if you cannot afford the latest version which is probably $285, go for an earlier edition and save some bucks for the tests

Look for a used one on Amazon! I got mine for about $100 cheaper than retail and it was barely used. I got the 12th ed. not sure what the newest one is.

I have the tenth edition and it has served just fine as a resource.

It sure would be nice to know the editor that ncarb uses since some of the questions appear to be pulled directly from it. Unfortunately, there's no way to know which version tb use. As architect23 said, version 10 would probably be suffice.

Thanks everyone! What about the student version? Do you think that's sufficient? It's sooooo much cheaper...but I can purchase an older, non-student edition if need be.

If you can, just try to buy an older version...

I found a used copy of Architectural Graphic standards for like 5 bucks at my local used bookstore...pound per pound I'd say it's the most bang for your buck as far as awesome architectural resources go...
