Mechanical & Electrical Plan Vignette and Multiple Choice

BS Vignette - Please Review and Comment

Postby casey.michaelj » Sat Sep 30, 2017 2:27 pm

See attached practice layout for Mechanical & Electrical ceiling plan. Some questions:

1) If the edge of a 2x2 fixture is slightly more than 2' away from a wall (6" +/-) will that impact score for light levels? I don't want to overlight.
2) The NCARB guide shows only one 2x4 fixture in the supply closet. With only 2' spread of light from the short ends of that light, it is not reaching 50 Fc at the perimeter walls. Is that OK?
3) Any tips on figuring out whether 2x2 or 2x4 is better for a particular room?
4) What is the min. spacing between supply diffusers and return grilles, in a given room?

Thank You!

2x4 lights incorrectly spaced in the architect's office.
Poor separation between supply & return in the architect's office.
Accent lights are too close to the north and south walls. Leave sketch elements on when posting here so we can see how you solved it.

Hi Sparky83,

Please see attached revised layout for review. Some responses to your feedback below:

1) What was poor about the 2x4 spacing in the Architect's office? The layout almost exactly matches what is shown as 'Passing' in the NCARB guide. Same for the supply diffusers and return grilles.
2) Is it preferable to have a return grille in its own tile, away from a light (but still against the grid) to give more clearance from a diffuser, or should they be grouped nearer to lights?
3) I re-spaced the Accent Lights to be further from N/S walls, however there is some overlap of the 80 Fc zone between them. Is that OK?
4) Is it OK to have two flex ducts branching off a rigid directly across from each other, in terms of airflow?

Thank You!

They're passing, not perfect, and you won't have a sample to look at in the testing room.Same for the supply diffusers and return grilles. Also an error.
2) Is it preferable to have a return grille in its own tile, away from a light (but still against the grid) to give more clearance from a diffuser, or should they be grouped nearer to lights? Return grilles have nothing to do with lights. There is no relationship to worry about.
