Mechanical & Electrical Plan Vignette and Multiple Choice

Passed first time!

Here is what I reviewed and studied:
Keep in mind I have 10 years in the industry, but most of the Building Systems exams were outside of my residential expertise and I only had passing knowledge of acoustics, HVAC, mechanical, plumbing and electrical systems.
- NCARB 4.0 Vignette (did this about 4- 5 times) Always the first time is blind with no knowledge of how others had solved it.
- Buy ARE Coaches video "Mechanical & Electrical Plan Playbook" and follow the instructions to the letter.
-Jenny's Notes: Read them thoroughly. Highlight the important items and topics. Study what you don't understand in other places such as MEEB
- Amber book study guide and sample quizzes are priceless. best value for the money. $40 is a cheap way to see what your ability is for each topic. I did these quizzes twice about 3 weeks apart.

- NALSA flash cards were a good way to introduce the topics and remember there could be other division questions on the exam.
- NCARB provided formulas- make sure you can solve questions using the equations.

- NCARB Practice Quiz was essential to understand the format of the test.
- Since I used the Brightwood study guide for the CDS and passed, I used it again for BS. Again the quizzes and exam was great in preparing. This may have been the single greatest piece of study material. I also did all of the quizzes twice and the final exam once. http://amzn.to/2ioHnbn
- MEEB, what can I say about that friggin' door stop. I had the 11th edition so there was no translation for study material from the earlier or later editions and come to find out there are no practice quizzes for that edition either. So I took the 10th edition notes and translated them into the 11th. I read the 4 chapters that were "must read" sections and lightly skimmed the rest of the recommended sections. Useful or not? Hard to say as MEEB was reviewing the topics I had already gone over in the other resources, so honestly I fell asleep through most of it. However, if you have no exposure working in the industry, the subjects are in depth (maybe too in depth) enough to give you a good understanding of each topic. Heavy reading though. Its for sale if anyone wants it. My tabs are still in place. They are all yours! $50 and shipping! :geek:
Anyway thought I would share. And, good luck to you!
