Electrical Metal Conduit

Postby arewethereyet_882 » Mon Nov 09, 2015 10:28 am

Hi Guys, I have exam tomorrow yet I'm still puzzled about which electrical conduit cannot be embedded in concrete or underground ? I received mixed answers from Kaplan, Ballast, and Amber Book, so would like to verify with everyone. Choices are as follows

Rigid Conduit (RMC)

Electrical Mettalic Tubing (EMT)

Intermediate Metal Conduit (IMC)

Flexible Metallic Conduit

Armor Conduit

Romex/ Nonmetallic Sheathed Cable

Which one is it that cannot be embedded in concrete or used in underground?

Thanks very much.

Thanks Cathaejo. This is what I originally thought, however when I encountered this question in Kaplan Q&A practice question (#62), and the answer turned out to be "Armored cables", as oppose to flex metal conduit .... This is why I'm confused....

Flexible metal conduit definitely cannot be used in those locations. Armored cable cannot be used for direct burial in earth, but can be embedded in concrete only with a lead-covered conductor (ACL). I got that Kaplan question wrong too and it didn't make sense to me why I did, so I did a little research. :P
