Missing beams at north and south lower level.
Take everything to centerlines.

Thank you very much. How about this one? there is no mention of a span limit for the beams so I divided the total span into three parts on the long wall.

I recommend 40' max beams and 30' max joists.
If absolutely necessary, 50' beams and 35' joists.

Remove upper west beam.
Move column west of common area door to northwest corner of shop 2.
Delete column at northeast of shop 2.
Remove one of middle columns at northernmost wall and move the other to middle of wall.
Rotate entry joists and delete east beam to improve efficiency.
Move middle column at southernmost wall to middle.
Remove lower level beam at common area west of shop 2.

Remove columns from northernmost and southernmost walls on upper level.
Move middle upper south common area column to northwest corner of shop 2.
Delete column at northeast of shop 2.
Provide a beam at west side of entry on lower level.
I would also place middle columns in northernmost and southernmost walls at midpoints. There's no need for a grid.

Thank you! I can't believe I put those perimeter columns on the upper level! Dumb!

"Provide a beam at west side of entry on lower level." So.. a beam in the window wall? Do you know if that has been done for a passing solution? That would seem to be a lintel and they specified that lintels can go only in bearing walls.

I am sure you are right but I need to understand why.

No. West side of covered entry.

You mean the main entry. Is the beam required to support the wall above?

I have attached a fresh attempt.

Many thanks,
Maria

Coach, I would appreciate of review of my attempt at Sajjad's Alt Vignette. I left the decking off for clarity.

Thank you,
Maria

Coach, I have another vignette--this one is from the NCARB workbook. I highlighted the doors and windows just to show where they are. Those are not lintels. The drawing was not scaled so I made some assumptions.

Thank you,
Maria
