PASS, 2nd Attempt (ARE Done)

Postby alexwilkosz24 » Mon Dec 04, 2017 7:56 am

I passed and have completed the A.R.E. It took almost 4 years to the day from my first pass, because I took some time away from exams when having a child to enjoy the first year of parenthood without studying and so glad it is all over now.

I left structures for last, wishing I hadn't.

What I used:
- Archiflash cards 3.0, still relevant and very useful.
- Ballast, the large book.
- Ballast practice exams
- Kaplan 500 questions practice exam
- YouTube videos for structural tutorials.
- B@R Wind and Seismic
- FEMA Chapters as suggested.

I studied for about 3 weeks, first week was a primer over everything. Then the last two weeks I did about 8 hours a day on weekends and 2.5-3 hours after work on worknights. Bought a college ruled notebook and took notes like a college class on the things I did not know. Then after reading through that converted the things I found tough still into my own flash cards.
I also worked out math problems in this notebook doing some of the Ballast book practice problems (way too detailed) and the practice exam problems.

I did the B@R and FEMA readings during work lunch breaks.

The math is important to understand, but you have to rememeber it is 125 questions, most of which are NOT math questions.

Goodluck to everyone else working their way through 4.0 these next 6 months before 5.0 is all that is available!
