Mike's alt Vignette, first try. Please give feedback, thanks

Hey all.

Test in a week, in another city, because there are no testing slots any more in my city ((EVER))  (hotel, rent a car, less time to study, added stress)

anywaysssssss

Here is my shot at Mike's vignette.
I'm pretty confused as to why a load bearing wall shouldn't go up two stories, why columns are better? Wind load, weight? The instructions say all that is negligible?
Also I read elsewhere beams and joists shouldn't span more then 40 feet. Where is that written anywhere in the official literature? How is anyone supposed to know this 'invisible' rule, how is that fair? Sorry for the negative attitude.

Thanks for giving it a look-see!

I'm not familiar with Mike's Vignette but I do know that everyone suggests solving the SS vignette without any bearing walls. It keeps everything so much simpler. Just use beams, joists, columns.
It would also be helpful to post both upper and lower framing plans.

I don't think the 40 feet span is a strict rule but in general you want to keep joists no more than 30 feet and beams no more than 40 feet. All things being equal, beams should span the long direction.
