I am having trouble understanding a Kaplan q&A.
Its number 99 in the book and the images of the question are attached.
I am having a hard time (so is Kaplan) understaning when we are taking moments and we subtract "- H (10)" from the equation. Could someone explain or walk me through what is happening...
thanks
Kaplan again screws up!
If you Sum moments at the base of the column, and base of the braces are at the same elevation, "H", the horizontal reaction, is multiplied by zero to obtain the moment it induces at the base of the column. It should be "V", the vertical reaction multiplied by the distance between the base of the brace and column, 10'. Does that help.
