Sajjad's ALT Vignette...Have a look!

Beams! Beams! Beams!

So, this looks all chopped to bits, but I hope I fulfilled the Program without a fatal error. Please review!

the first thing I see is that on the upper floor your joists system span more than 30'-0" which is wrong. have a look on my solution and please give me feedback.
thank you

Disagree with previous reviewer. Thaddeus had mentioned that Dorf gave a length of up to about 31-32' as max for joists in this vignette. That span should be fine.

When I was doing the vignette, I tried to minimize length of beams, and number of joist sizes. If you rotate the northernmost and southernmost portions, you can actually end up with only two joist widths, and significantly reduce overall beam length.

Understand the reviews, and I am going to go with 30' max joists and 40' max beams as a rule of thumb on the actual exam. I also unerstand about rotating and resizing, but all in all would this solution be considered passable?

Where in the program does it say that span more than 30'-0" is wrong?
Answer: IT doesn't. ec080178 YOU are wrong.
What if the vignette has a 60'-0 x 60'-0" room with one wall required to be completely open and no columns allowed except around the perimeter. Will you add 60' long beams to limit the joist spans to 30'? That should be a failing solution.
The length of the joist span will always be a question on the high roof. The high roof will be a rectangle with a short width and a long length. ALWAYS, ALWAYS span the short width, adding beams spanning the short width is a major, possibly fatal error.

I don't think the beam on the east side of the veranda/tread mill room is necessary.
