CUSTOM ALT - First Attempt

Postby k4dm0nky » Wed Sep 11, 2013 8:28 pm

I have a question on the beam span on the upper floor. The program states maximum span is 35'-0". Over the cafeteria spaces, there is a double door, and it comes out to be 35'-4" from center of column to center of column without an extra column. So that is why there is an extra column in there. Should I measure the face of the column? But when I drawn the beam without that extra column, center to center it is 35'-4". I guess I am playing it safe with the beam span, but also adding 2 extra columns. I guess the question is what can we or can't we do on exam day? Can we cheat a few extra inches even though it does say 35'-0 maximum? Or should I measure face to face of column, even though when we draw the beam it states 35'-4' (center to center of column)?

Thanks!

i think it is most likely that the program on exam day will not give you a maximum, correct? rule of thumb for beams if i remember was 40' so on exam day 35'-4" would be fine

I think you need a beam at the lower roof underneath the interior double height wall between the reception and cafeteria to carry the load of the upper floor wall.

Would that be drawn on the lower level or upper level?

That would be at the lower roof.

why do you have beams on lower floor w of w.cafe. and e. of east cafeteria?
Instead shouln't there be beamse on both sides of reception walls lower level to carry loads for lower roof of cafeteria?
