BL: Lobby / Corridor question

Postby efhogan » Sat Sep 21, 2013 3:15 pm

In the Building Layout vignette, Lobbies are shown with a hatch that indicates they're circulation space. I'm wondering if a Lobby can help comprise the circulation space through the building (as shown in the first image) or if the Lobby would need to abut a Corridor (as shown in the second image).

Thank you!

Yes, your lobby can comprise the circulation space as you've shown in your first option. Check the NCARB sample passing solution where they show this condition. Also, the given "code" has these definitions:

1. Means of egress: A continuous and unobstructed path of
travel from any point in a building to a public way.
A means of egress comprises the vertical and horizontal
means of travel to an exit and includes intervening
doors, interior wall openings, corridors, circulation areas,
and stairs.
2. Circulation area: A lobby or a space designated as an
“area.”
