NCARB Building Layout

Postby jponitz » Sat Jun 15, 2013 7:22 pm

Testing on Thursday; any feedback would be much appreciated.

1) Are the exit doors at east stair appropriate?

2) Wasn't sure how to position CR so that it had visual control from reception, and proximity to MP--is that working?

3) Had to move things around to ensure lobby had adequate square footage, which made me wonder what distinguishes a "lobby" from a "corridor"--does it matter where they meet, as long as square footage is correct and there is a wall opening between them?

1. Yes
2. From what I understand, "proximity" requires that the doors should be about 15' apart or less.
3. Treat the Lobby like any other room in terms of square-footage. It is still bound by the wall hosting the opening.

I'm not sure if R has visual control of MP.
You need another opening between the main corridor and the little corridor serving as an alcove to the MP.
Second floor corridor is a bit circuitous. Not really sure how much that matters.

I'd try shifting CR and GR to the north, so that their south walls are alined with the south wall of the MP. Then, shift the Lobby east into the space created by doing so. Re-size R so that its depth matches TS, TRs, and EM. Rotate west stair 90 deg. On the second floor, try squeezing the east TR into that leftover corridor space in the middle.

Not too bad. Move CR door east and extend R windows.

3) Had to move things around to ensure lobby had adequate square footage,

I might have had a recommendation if I knew where the BLL was.

What do you mean? Lobby is lobby and corridor is corridor.

--does it matter where they meet, as long as square footage is correct and there is a wall opening between them?

Just don't use lobby area to create corridor.

Leave site on next time.
Missing wall opening.

15' is way too restrictive.

I'm not sure if R has visual control of MP.

Not required.

Second floor corridor is a bit circuitous.

It's fine.

Thought I read that somewhere. Good to know it's wrong. What's a good rule to go by when spaces are required to be "near?"

I'm not sure if R has visual control of MP....Not required.

My bad.

As close as possible.
Within 1/2 the primary corridor length, less with turns.
