4.0 Stair Design...First Attempt

Postby samialj » Sat Jun 24, 2017 11:16 am

Whoa...this one took some time.

For the width of the stair I used 48" between handrails (as outlined by the AOR requirement) and added 4" on both sides to allow for the handrails (56" total width). I used the cut stair as suggested. All stairs are 11" treads and 7" risers: 3 risers from ground floor to middle - 10 risers from middle to intermediate landing - 8 from intermediate landing to the second floor.

The only thing I'm not sure of is the handrail on the middle floor that extends 12" into the clear floor space of the door. Anyone know if this is acceptable?

Thanks in advance for any comments.

Seems like you followed the NCARB solution to a tee. Overall, it looks good. 21 total risers is correct. The 12" handrail can extend into the door clearance as outlined in the code page of the vignette as long it does not block the door opening.
