Hi, in general as per ADA, can the 5' turnings space be interupted by a door swing? If yes, is there a maximun?
Thank you

The ADA specifically allows space for a turning radius to overlap a doorswing. The turning radius cannot overlap the door leaf itself. In the latest version of the ADA, even fixture clearances can overlap the doorswing as long as you have a 30x48 "parking space" for a wheelchair that does NOT overlap a doorswing.

Hi. Sparky, I tht I have used 7" max encroachment before but I may be wrong. Its been a while since I have used this. I looked up and there was no mention of any max. value...all it said is that it can encroach.

My understanding is that the door swing can only overlap a fixture clear floor space in a single occupant area (i.e. a one person bathroom). It wouldn't make sense, otherwise. If you had someone at a LAV that was in a wheelchair and that clearance space overlapped the door swing, then someone would just whack the door into the back of a wheelchair trying to get into a public bathroom.

I go by 2010 ADA and 2009 ANSI 117.1 (and UFAS for federal properties). What ADA are you working off of, Sparky?
