Soil Bearing Capacity

Postby raustin1011 » Sat Apr 28, 2018 12:35 pm

I am getting varying information on bearing capacity by soil type. Can you please offer an opinion on which source to trust, I am sure this will show up somewhere on the exam.

Jenny's:
Bedrock: 10,000
Wellgraded gravel or sand: 3,000 to 12,000 (this one seems odd, 12,000? more than bedrock?)
Compacted Sand/fill: 2000 to 3000
Silt / Clay: 1000 to 4000

Black Spectacles:
Bedrock: 8000 to 20000
Well graded gravel or sand 2000 to 6000
Silt clay: 1000 to 3000

IBC (Ballast):

IBC Allowable Foundation Pressure:
Crystalline Bedrock: 12,000
Sedimentary and Foliated Rock: 4,000 (limestone, slate and shale)
Sandy Gravel or gravel: 3,000
Sand, silty sand, clayey sand or gravel: 2,000
Clay, sandy clay… 1,500

Why would you question the actual code? That's what you're being tested on.
