parking lot area calculation

Hi all:
Kaplan states 400 sf per car including parking space and driveway. but Ballast says: 300 sf for parking space and driveway... 400 sf if you include walkways....
which one it is?

I was wondering that, too. This is what I've reasoned.
400 SF is about 1 parking space, the drive aisle, and the sidewalk.
Assume a parking space is 8 - 1/2' x 18', a drive aisle is 24' wide, and a sidewalk is 5' wide. The space itself is 153 SF, the aisle is 204 SF, and a sidewalk is 42.5 SF. That totals to 399.5 SF (Round to 400SF).
