MC - NCARB Sample Multiple Choice Question #3

Postby brifont » Wed Mar 21, 2018 7:13 pm

Hello,

In the sample MC questions in the PPP NCARB Exam Guide, question #3 reads:

Which of the following consultant engineers typically consumes the greatest percentage of project fees on school projects?

The answer is mechanical, but I don't know why. I've tried to looking for an answer online but can't find any reason - Anyone know why? Thank you for any help.

The answer is always mechanical!

In all seriousness, go through a few project proposals that your office has made. Mechanical engineering is almost always the highest cost, particularly in a building where the construction system will not be unusual. Most schools are economically built, so the structural system will be pretty normal, but the building will have multiple uses and spaces of many sizes, so mechanically, it's challenging.

Not always, but certainly for schools and hospitals.

Complexity and relative percentage of construction costs are good indicators.
