Is there a difference in these cost estimating terms?

Per google: The Unit-in-place Method is a cost-estimating method in which the total building cost is estimated by adding the unit costs for the various building components. This sounds like the elemental (ASSEMBLIES AND SUBSYSTEMS) method that happens in Schematic design.

However, I know programming involves UNIT COST system.

Can someone clarify, I am so confusedd!

i ran into the same problem and likely selected the wrong answers---I think the exams use diferent terminology than what the study materials show---also, I believe each region/state uses their own terminology.

I'll post something---I am in the middle of researching the same.

I think its a terminology issue. Its definition matches the subsystem method mentioned in Ballast pg 3-11, as well as the diagrams.

Anob- sounds like the elemental (assemblies and subsystems) method... which is Schematic Design, right?

The methods are similar but keep in mind "Unit Cost In Place" is done in the pre-design phase to determine land value. So there are added components to add such as replacement or add improvements cost. Check out "cost approach" method in either kaplan or ballast. Hope this helps.

Sorry for taking so long to respond. Unit Cost in Place is a land or existing structure appraisal method which is typically done before the programming and design phase.
