Required Width of Exit Calculation

Postby bladeyoon » Sat Oct 21, 2017 2:29 pm

Hello,

I was reading several notes (Jenny's note, Caroline's note, Kaplan, Ballast and Arch Prep, etc) and bit confused about the required width of exit.
Jenny's note says "required width of exits is determined by occupants on the floor + an allowance for occupants from the floor above."
Some other readings, I remember, say "determined by occupants on the floor + on the floor above + on the floor below."

which one is the correct one?

One website like 'http://buildingcodenyc.com' says "design your stair width for the floor with the highest occupant load".
Obviously, this is stair width, but this is also something new that I did not find on any of ARE study guide pdfs.
Does Stair width calculation also apply the similar rules like 'counting occupants on the floor + above floor + below floor'?

It's bit confusing..

Thank you!
