Please use PRINTSCREEN for posting vignettes!

Postby Coach » Sat Sep 13, 2014 8:34 pm

I'm seeing a rash of photos. If you want people to review your stuff then make an effort to provide legible attachments.

Printscreen, crop, resize, save as pdf or jpg.

It's not difficult.

If you don't know how to use printscreen, surely you know how to use google.

The low pixel limit is pretty hard to comply with for jpegs. The snip tool in windows defaults to 1100 or so. Any good tips for reducing this easily?

Change the default or compress in picture manager.

I had no issues in Word. If you "print screen", paste in Word, and save as a pdf it's easily 100KB.

When I post pdf's they show up as an attachment that needs to be downloaded. How are others including them so they're visable in the post?

That's the only way to use PDFs.

Hi Coach,

I am having trouble printing my screen shot from the NCARB practice exam (Schematic vignette for Interior Layout). I Googled it, am doing exactly what I should be doing, but I am unable to copy the screen. Is this because I am working off the practice exam directly through the NCARB site? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Hello, I have a PC tower reformatted as a vista 32 bit windows machine ... I am not familiar with how to capture a screen shot on a PC. I have tried the screen capture/print screen and then pasting it into Paint, but nothing is coming up. Can someone please provide me with a simple list of steps? I am normally a Mac user, so any help would be appreciated. I did google instructions but I must be missing something. Thank you. :)

Thank you sarann221, that helped. I also gave in and got a PC keyboard. Which I think was the main source of my problem. :D

LOL! Were you using a MAC keyboard? Yeah..... ;) Glad that helped. I know if you're used to PC or MAC going back and forth can be a make the brain feel twisted. :D

daysee, you need to save out your files as Jpegs (you can do this with screen captures) and that's how the files show up in the post.

When your vignette is complete do the following:

1. Print screen by pressing "prt sc"
2. Open paint and press "ctrl+v" (paste). You should see a screen shot pasted on the paint program.
3. Go to the "view" tab.
4. Select the entire photo.
5. Click "crop" and box in the drawing area.
6. Click "crop" again and the image should get cropped.
7. Click on "resize"
8. Under the new window select "pixels" and proceed to resize the image to 600 in the horizontal direction.
9. Save the file as .png and proceed to attach the file in this forum.

Hope this helps.

Follow the steps above.
Open a word processor and insert the PNG file you created. Note you could have saved it in JPG format too.
Once in your word processor file, print to a PDF. If you do not have a PDF driver, you can download one. They are available for free and can be found using Google. I use "PDF Complete" which came with my computer.

If you don't know how to use printscreen, surely you know how to use google.

It's also not difficult to rework the website a bit to allow for larger images to be attached. It's the year 2016.....

Nah, I don't have any money left after paying NCARB, Nalsa and Prometric for all of these silly exams

After using "snipit", paste it in Paint. While everything is still highlighted after pasting, select the Resize button and you can provide the maximum of 600 pixel requirement while still maintaining your aspect ratio in 1 step.
