Making lines at ANY ANGLE in NCARB vignette??!!

Postby dingicm » Tue Sep 30, 2014 6:08 am

I am wondering if anyone has a simple trick to use with the NCARB software for making angles at any size?! This has been my hardest struggle with this vignette!!! I want to be prepared on the exam for any angle NCARB might give and I test on Thursday.....

I saw the post below earlier which was very helpful for a 30 degree angle!

One thing that has always been annoying for me is trying to accurately draw a 30 degree line with the ncarb software.

I've just found a quick and easy way to do it:
Draw a rectangle with the dimensions x=97',y=56'. The line that connects opposite corners will always be 30 degrees.
(if you need a larger 30 degree line, you may also use x=194', y=112')

Thank you!

not sure if you've already noticed this but when you draw a line in the ncarb software - the little box at the bottom will tell you the angle that you are drawing it at. hope this helps.

Haha...I'm using a work computer perhaps not all of the features are showing up!!! I'm glad you wrote this otherwise I wouldn't know until the actual exam, but I guess it would have at least been a pleasant surprise :) Glad the only thing I was worried about for this exam is solved, I wish they were all this easy!

dingicm,

No big trick, but the line angle bothered me too so I just worked out a bunch of the angles. Below are the X and Y dims that I worked out that are also long enough to cover the section grid area:

The fastest way I plan to do this is drawing the horizontal sketch line for the degree that NCARB puts in the program at the required location height. Then draw the angle by dragging your degree line to the end and then going vertically up until you get to the required degree. If a messed up 12 degree angle pops up then at least you've got something to work from at the 10 degree mark.

Degrees X Y
5° 240 21
10° 261 46
15° 291 78
20° 261 95
25° 268 125
30° 142 82
35° 307 215
40° 174 146
45° 102 102 (Obviously the easiest with no need for memorization)

Hope this helps, but remember that the software allows for a fraction off.
