Getting Started, Too Late for 5 Test Strategy?

Getting Started, Too Late for 5 Test Strategy?

Postby ChappyEight » Mon Mar 26, 2018 10:58 am

Thanks for setting up the site, Coach. Quick background, I started in on ARE 4.0 way back in 2012 before using life as an excuse to stop taking the exams. Well, because of that, my exams have expired. So, here I am starting anew and hoping to knock these things out by year's end, if possible.

That said, as I've begun re-familiarizing myself with the tests and NCARB in general, I saw the possibility of the 5 test strategy over at Black Spectacles. Considering that ARE 4.0 will sunset in a mere 13 weeks, do you think it feasible to attempt CDS, PPP, and SPD in v4.0 in that time frame or am I asking for trouble? Would you suggest I just go ahead and make the transition to v5.0?

I'm willing to put in the study work necessary but, I'm wondering if it's just a bad idea this close to v4.0's sunset.

Any advice is welcome and appreciated.

Yes. I passed CDS, PPP, and BDCS in a similar time frame:

Construction Documents & Services 4.0 Pass 4/20/2016
Programming, Planning & Practice 4.0 Pass 5/6/2016
Building Design & Construction Systems 4.0 Pass 6/6/2016

Definitely take CDS first and leave SPD for last. You can do a 5 exam path with just CDS and PPP. The study for PA in 5.0 overlaps with SPD and PPP, so it was pretty straightforward to do this.

Really appreciate the advice. I didn't realize I didn't have to take SPD to go the 5 test route. What disgusts me about myself is that I had already passed SPD in v4.0 and I let it lapse.

Dummy.
