Take BS and BDCS or transition?

Take BS and BDCS or transition?

Postby studio26 » Tue Oct 31, 2017 7:02 am

Hi Friends,
I need advice on how to move forward! I have taken and failed BS twice (once 2 months ago) and BDCS failed once. I am done with all the other exams.

I really want to finish these two before June 2018 - Do you think I can do this? Or do you think I should transition?

Also, if I should take the test which sequence do you suggest? Which test first and which after?

I am so confused, any advice would be helpful!! Thank you so much!

You have two exams remaining no matter what. What areas you are failing in with the 4.0 exams?
IMHO if you are only failing on the vignettes then transition. However, understand that the two 5.0 exams have a broader range of topics that you are being tested on when compared to BS & BDCS. Also, be aware of your rolling clock if you do transition.

If you are failing one or two sections of MC and passing the vignettes, don’t transition and try your best to push through and pass the 4.0 exams before June. You have been testing in 4.0… you are comfortable with this version, you know the format, the software, what types of questions you will get, etc.

Thanks!

I keep failing Environmental Issues and one of the vignettes in the BDCS and Lighting and Electrical in BS.

Any advice what to study for Environmental?

Terrible advice.

Also, be aware of your rolling clock if you do transition.

Do not transition before understanding what rolling clock can do to you.

What is your rolling clock status? What do you lose and when?

I would buckle down and get 4.0 done.

If I transition, my rolling clock would be 8/25/2019...

Well, that's it regardless. What's important is which divisions you would lose and when.

Personally, I'd stick it out with 4.0. Whether you transition to 5.0 or not, you'll still have to take 2 tests. If you transition, you'll most likely have to re-study CDS, SS, SD, and SPD topics.

You said that you took BS twice, when did you take it first? I think, if your first time taking BS was after June 2017, I would retake BS first. If you pass, then take BDCS. If you had taken the first BS after June 2017 and you fail, I don’t think you’d be able to retake BS again. Also Check your record to see when your “testing ends on” date is. I can’t see it anymore because I just took an exam and am waiting for the results so mine is blank, but I thought mine had said I have until April 2018 to take it, not June 30, 2018!!!

Update: I called NCARB to ask about my “testing ends on” date and they said that it should be June 30, 2018.

That is different than the transition date. Some states require you "reauthorize your testing" Call and have them extend it.
