Does anyone know what a unit in place estimate is and what phase it would be used in??

I have the same question and cant find it anywhere.
I took it as unit per assembly which is in DD

The appraisal method of estimating building costs by calculating the costs of all of the physical components in the structure, with the cost of each item including its proper installation. Also called the segregated cost method

I'd think it's during CD. Wouldn't the "cost estimate" during bid phase be the bid itself from the contractor?
