I went back to the NCARB SS Handbook and went through the questions because I read that they are helpful for PDD.

Can someone please explain how to come up with the answer for this one?

9. If the soil bearing capacity is 3000 psf and the applied load is 48,000 lbs, what is the area of the footing? (Answer: 16sf)

Thanks

It's all simple algebra.

48000#/3000psf = 16sf

7) Column live load = 80(33.33x25) = 66.67k

31) Wall: (16x40x1.5)150 = 144k, M=144(10)=1440ft-k
Footing: (20x6x2)150 = k, M=36x10=360ft-k
DL: 240k, M=240x10=2400ft-k
Load: 24k, M=24x42=1008ft-k

(1440+360+2400)/1008= 4.2
