I just start PDD, so here is a very easy question to most of you.
The question in the Handbook, the snow load per linear foot on the ridge beam = design snow load x HALF roof span.
Why HALF span but not the whole?
Thank you guys.

Because the snow load acts as uniform load. That applies to lateral loads as well. ((plf x length)x1/2 length)

Be careful!
It's 1/2 of each side of the ridge. The other halves go to the bearing points opposite the ridge.
It's all about tributary area.
