Ballast & Brightwood

Ballast & Brightwood

Postby Ale » Sun Apr 02, 2017 9:35 am

I've taken and failed both PPD & PDD.

•I used Ballast 5.0 & 4.0 material for PDD.
•I used Ballast5.0 & Brightwood for PPD.

Ballast practice exam is not close to real exam questions. (A lot of the same questions are copied from 4.0)
Brightwood is better but still lacks information.
Both lack (hot spots/ identifying diagram) questions.

Any thoughts/advise on what study material better helps with exam questions?

I transitioned from 4.0, having passed everything but BS and SS.

Thanks
Ale

Hi Ale,

I used the following for my PPD/PDD studying. There is a lot of overlap, so I studied the same material for both, but in my time between PPD and PDD gave myself a deeper look at structural equations.

Jenny’s Notes (read full)
• BS
• BCDS
• SS
• PPP (skimmed)
Alkikat BS Notes
Ballast 4.0 Flash Cards
• BS
• BDCS
• SS
• SPD
Black Spectacles
• Most of PPD except early stuff
• All of structures, systems, code
• PDD for building systems and construction details
Youtube
• PDD video playlists
• Structures Basics, moments, trusses, free body diagrams
• All Black Spectacles practice exams (BS/BDCS/PPP)
Study Exams
• Ballast 5.0 PPD (exams and quizzes)
• Ballast 4.0 (exams and Q&A)
o BS
o BDCS
o PPP
• Amber Book Building Systems
• NCARB Demo Exam
• Brightwood PDD QBank (too many structural questions, but some useful info)

@ OP, I agree. I skimmed through a 5.0 ballast test question manual last weekend and i notice the same questions from 4.0 &
along with that the same questions from various sections in 5.0! I think there was a questions from programming analysis that is also
in PPD
