Contingent Assignment of Subs

Clause 5.4 in A201 can have the subcontractor's assigned to the owner if the GC is booted off the project. However, I thought you have to be a licensed contractor to fill the GC's role. The owner is not a licensed contractor, so how can he/she assume that position?

The subcontractors are assigned to an owner temporarily until there is a new GC retained. Because that time period can be a month or so, as the owner you don't want quality subs who are familiar with the project walking away. When a new GC is hired they will assign the subs to them and bring on any replacements.

As far as I know, an owner can act as GC in all 50 states.

Hello Coach, perhaps you meant "residential owner" ?
What happens if the project is in CA ?
