ARE CDS Vignette

I'm looking or clarification on the maximum duct size issue. My understanding is that my plenum needs to be drawn to include the maximum duct size in the "area', which interpret to mean that particular floor and side of the building? in other words, the maximum duct size for all parts of that floor where ceiling heights align and ducts are continuous.

You don't necessarily use maximum duct size.

Plenum is sized for the largest joist/duct combination. That combination might or might not include the largest joist or duct.

For this purpose, an area is all space on the same floor with the same ceiling height.

Hi Coach,

Would you mid taking a look at this practice exam -- given our conversation about plenum and joist - duct combination?

Plenum depth:

- 32" floor 1 remaining area (outside lab)
- 24" floor 2 lab
- 32 floor 3 remaining area (outside lab)

To really get a handle on the joist/duct combination, do the 3.1 vignette.
It looks like your light spaces are inadequate.
Rated walls go from top of slab to bottom of deck.
Break slab at bearing walls.

Hi Coach,

Could you elaborate briefly on your last comments on 4/29:

- Regarding inadequate light spaces?

- If by "breaking slab" art bearing walls you mean the bearing walls sit directly on the footings -- I believe I did that, unless you are referring to the center footing?

- Rated walls are shown as brown, going from top of slab, past rafters, to bottom of deck.

Lastly, can you tell me where I can find the 3.1 practice vignette?

At some locations it didn't look like the required 8" was provided.

Yes.

Interior bearing walls count too.

They should do that at each floor. In the image it looks like it runs continuous from first floor to roof deck.

Lastly, can you tell me where I can find the 3.1 practice vignette?

Question: For the 4.0 CDS Vignette, is the largest duct/joist combination tied to the room or the floor. In other words, is the assumption there are no ceiling height changes by room or across the entire floor of the building?

The ceiling height is uniform across the entire floor unless otherwise noted.

Hi Coach,

Posting my revised Vignette -- your feedback is greatly appreciated -- I test on Saturday:

- I have maximum duct size for the floor 1 ceiling as 32x24

- I have maximum duct size in laboratory ceiling as 24x20

- I have maximum duct size for the remaining (outside laboratory) floor 2 ceiling as 32x20

I believe that you missed your slab on grade. This is a critical error.

It was accidentally erased -- That's embarrassing. Aside from that -- good?
