hi all, wondering if.....
when there is a discrepancy between contract drawings and specifications, drawings take precedence right?
what if there is a discrepancy between the AIA documents say between agreement and supplementary conditions or general conditions?

They are both binding.

What if a jobsite calls to clarify a detail that shows a vinyl base for a Historic Building renovation you're working on, when you really meant wood which the Specs indicate (or vice versa)?

"Drawings and specifications are complementary and what is called for by one shall be as binding as if called for by both." <- I have this on a post-it on my desk to remind me that they are interdependent and therefore both deserve the same amount of attention! It's easy to prioritize the drawings, but specs are important too!

I know you were using this as an example, fliparch! If you have a decent contractor, they should notice the discrepancy and ask for clarification in an RFI. A lot of contractors aren't so decent though so it's obviously a good thing to give your spec writer the most up-to-date drawings and keep him/her in the loop about project decisions. Our spec writer is very good about being specific about the language used so we can edit the language in the drawings to match the specs to minimize confusion.

so Ballast was wrong!!
it says " When there is a conflict between the drawings and the specs, the courts have held that the specs are more binding and take precedence over the drawings"
Kaplan says both binding according A201 1.2.1 and 4.2.11

damn, Ive always thought the specs ruled. the study material for CDs is AWFUL! it all conflicts.
