Duct&Joist question

Postby Pow_Arch » Sun Nov 24, 2013 8:02 pm

A vignette scenario:
Area 1: duct at 12 joist at 36 (48 total)
Area 2: duct at 22 joist at 24 (46 total)
Area through which we are cutting: duct at 8 joist at 24 (32 total)

The ceiling sandwich through which we are cutting will look as follows:
- 8 inches for light and fixtures
- 24 inch plenum (with an 8 inch duct shown in section)
- 24 inch joist

CORRECT?
I might be overthinking this but would sleep better at night if this were clarified. Thanks!

Yes, I think you're right. Based on my understanding, you have to use the joist/duct combination of Area 1. Inclusive of the lights, the total space shown in the section would be 56". For the section, you'd show:
8" for lights
8" for the duct being cut
24" for the joist being cut
and a spare 16" for the remaining plenum space.
