NCARB Section Vignette

Postby alkoen » Sun Nov 17, 2013 4:10 pm

Please review my first attempt of the NCARB section vignette.

I am a little confused with the required space between ceiling and floor/roof slab. Does it have to be the largest duct on the floor + 8" for light fixture?

In my solution:
Above lab = 20" + 8" = 28"
Above level 1 ceiling = 24" + 8" = 32"
Above level 2 ceiling = 20" + 8" = 28"

Is this correct?

Also, does the slab on grade have to be above the grade line or below?

Thank you.

You must use the largest joist/duct combination + light space.

It's called slab ON grade for a reason.

Footings missing.
Break slab at walls.

Coach,

Sorry if this has been covered, I'm new to the forum, with my first test (CD&S) in 2 weeks. In the practice vignette, is the laboratory considered it's own 'floor' or is it considered part of floor number 2?

For example: Should the right side of the vignette (The corridor and room) be based on the 32" joists as seen in the Lab, or should they be based on the 24" joists as seen on the second floor?

Thank you!

Hi JTArch07,
The different ceiling heights called out in the program, the bearing walls that bound the lab, and the different labels on the roof joists mean that the lab is separate from the second floor and do not share a structural roof system. Hope this helps. If not, take a look at the plan again, you'll see the roof structure being interrupted by the bearing walls.
